What
is Solar Lighting?
Solar Lighting is defined
as the collection of solar energy from the sun using solar panel or
photo voltaic cell and transform it into lighting throughout the day-time by
using the photo voltaic effect.Solar lighting is one of the cheapest and
easiest methods to preserve the environment and reduce electricity cost.
These
lights generate huge amount of light so that it can be utilized in a variety of
applications like to improve home security, for an event venue, to lighten up a
garden etc.
Different
types of solar lighting solutions:
Solar Sky Lights:
To
dim and brighten indoor lighting solar sky lights which interact with the sun
and clouds is used. They are designed to convert the suns energy to light and
auto-adjust brightness levels to match external conditions. These lights set to
both metal deck and tiled roofs without need of a light shaft. The lighting
levels slowly fluctuate depending on the natural sunlight that is available. In
full sunlight the system shines brightly and the system dims accordingly in
overcast conditions or cloud cover, providing the familiar lighting behavior
of traditional skylight installations.
Photo voltaic Lights:In
photo voltaic lights photo voltaic (PV) module collects energy
from the sun and stores in the batteries to operate the required wattage of
light at night. This is generally used for energy savings, cost savings, and
environmental reasons. As they generate their own electricity these
systems are called grid free or stand-alone .This cuts down on constructions
costs of underground wiring. This is also common in countries where the grid is
not available and are also used for security purposes.
Hybrid Solar Lights: This
type of solar lighting is the grid interactive solar lighting systems or
sometimes referred to as hybrid systems.
This system are of
three types.
First one of hybrid system is a system that has solar modules and no battery. This system usually
has a meter and what is generates while the sun is out goes directly into the
grid. These systems are also sometimes referred to as peak reduction units.
The second type hybrid
system has a solar module and a battery and the solar module generates the
power and gives the energy into the battery and operates the light for specific
hours then the system switches back to grid power. This type of system is used where
electricity is available at the pole but the customer would like to equalize
the costs of the electricity.
The third hybrid solar
lighting system is where the power generated is capable of operating the light
fixture. For additional security the grid is available so it can switch on in
case the weather does not keep up with the system.
Maintenance of solar
lighting systems is easy as only thing to do is a few check-ups and cleaning
throughout the year.Solar lighting is now available in numerous types, styles,
shapes, sizes etc. and is made not only for the functional purposes but also to
be aesthetically and visually pleasing.
